Dear Aunt,

I received your letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you I am well at present and hope this may find you the same. I received a letter from home a few days ago and everything seemed to be going off well.

You wanted to know how much I received a month. A private never receives but $16.00 a month and that is all I receive.

You wrote one thing that I did not like, that was that you hoped Mc. [General George McClellan] would be elected so this “War would Stop”. If this war must be stopped by the election of a traitor to his Country, I say in God’s name let it continue. I never can think of voting for a man that is sustained by such a party as upholds him. “Little Mc.” The man that is known to have skulked upon a gun boat at the Battle of Malvern Hill.

I have nothing at present to write so I will close. Tell Aunt Phebe that she must write. Excuse mistakes and receive this from,

Ringer
